Hass

Testing out =suzums' Hasselblad. Having a little fun.

I've been thinking of going 6x6. I've been shooting 6x7 for the past few months and it's been great, but since I am shooting 4x5 as well now, I am not so intent on having that extra "real estate" so to speak.

Some thoughts for those getting into medium format..

I've considered other systems, Kiev, Bronica.. but one persuading point against these less prestigious names is that it is much tougher to have them repaired once they break down--and they often do. So, Hasselblad it may be. I like the thought of having leaf shutter lenses so I can easily use strobes if I wish. Pentax 6x7, though a brilliant system, is primarily meant for use with ambient light (and or hot lights). Yes it does have a pc sync, however, it only syncs to 1/60th or 1/30th I believe. They do have a few leaf shutter lenses though which can sync up to 1/500th.

One disadvantage with Hass is it is like buying a Mac. You think it is gonna cost you $1500 but it ends up being double with all the damn accessories. Extension tubes, film backs, filters, more film backs, lens grips, new focusing screen, the list goes on. The accessories ain't cheap.

Pentax 6x7 produces amazing images, sharp as they come, and it is dirt cheap in comparison to Hass. Hmm. Maybe I ought to wait on it.
