poho'iki: once upon a tire

Description

Once upon a time, my mom loved surfing (and she still does!) Poho'iki became her second home, where she would go nearly every morning before dawn, to be the first in that icy cold water. However over the years, something began to bother my mom. On any given day you can see divers, campers, fisherman, and children playing on the boat ramp, of course, it was not this that bothered her. Since police rarely come this far out of their way, it is also a nice party/drinking spot, as well. Yet this did not bother her. What bothered her was the trash that was accumulating, smelly half full beer bottles lying around.. all kinds of junk. This disturbed my mom, frustrated her, it hurt her. How could people be so careless about such a great place? Why? So years ago, she was moved to action. She was one person who was willing to let passion live in her, and who was willing to care. Today, Poho'iki is not perfect (as I have shown you here) however, it has improved tremendously. Not only that, but my mom's efforts (which became quite a recycling operation) eventually went beyond just her surf spot, through the nearby town, Pahoa, she even stirred up some attention from the city and county. I can't go into even half the things she went through to accomplish her goal, and maybe she hasn't even reached it yet.. but I believe this part of her life should be seen as apart of Poho'iki itself. She gave so much to this place.

Great sepia tones. And...yee! I have no idea why that tire lying there looks so cool, but it does, and you rock for having noticed it.
